Dante Atkins is a political communicator, campaigner and strategist. he is the founder and principal at progressive communications strategy firm Atkins Strategies. You would have thought that a professional communicator could have named his company after something catchier than his own name, but we don’t always practice what we preach.
Before that, Dante served as the Communications Director for Congressman John Garamendi. Previously, he has managed Democratic/progressive political campaigns in California, from small municipal races to high-profile statewide campaigns.
As a strategic communications consultant, Dante has done work for labor, local Democratic Parties, campaigns, and the California Health Benefits Exchange.
Dante got his start as a commentator in the early days of the political blogosphere, writing diaries at Daily Kos, MyDD, and other foundational sites of the online left.
Dante has been a weekly contributing editor at Daily Kos, one of the nation's largest and most influential political websites, as well as Calitics.com, California's leading political blog.
He also has bylines in The Guardian and ATTN.com.
Dante's archive of essays as a Contributing Editor at DailyKos is here.
Dante wrote a trend piece for The Guardian about millennial men.
Look, politics is difficult, and sometimes we need to let loose a little and be silly. So Dante's trying to turn himself into an aspiring humor writer, and is failing less than miserably at the moment.
He's currently studying with The Second City to try to learn how to do this right. Feel free to read his pieces, then forgive him.
